Heartland Payment Systems, Inc. Desktop Engineer in Jeffersonville, Indiana


The Desktop Engineer’s role is to perform systems analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation, and implementation of applications that require comprehensive knowledge and technical skills. The Engineer will have a broad knowledge of Windows Desktop and Apple operating systems to include design considerations for desktop, laptop, and Thin-Client/Zero-Client virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Considerations include knowledge of Host-Based Security Systems, Anti-Virus, Active Directory Group Policy Integration, and common Microsoft Office products. Skills in applying troubleshooting and diagnostic tools such as Resource Monitor, Process Explorer, Network Monitor, and other tools to evaluate problems and improve performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via email) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.

Job Details:

Primary Responsibilities/Objectives:

  • Workstation Image creation and maintenance

  • Support ongoing usability of virtual desktop computers within established standards and guidelines

  • Software installation, setup, and troubleshooting installed and/or virtualized applications

  • Work with vendor support contacts to resolve technical problems with desktop equipment and software

  • Active Directory Users and Computers Management

  • Active Directory Group Policy Management for Users and Computers

  • Administration of Antivirus, Encryption, and other security applications to meet security needs

  • Administration and Maintenance of Patch Management for Desktops and Servers

  • Intermediate Network Troubleshooting

  • Assist Desktop Support with escalated issues

  • Assist with communication between other IT teams

  • Open Change Controls Requests, and coordinate changes with other teams

  • Monitor helpdesk queues, process tickets, and interface with users in fixing issues

Core Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Desktop and Apple Operating Systems

  • Knowledge of Apple iPad and iPhone Operating Systems

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Exchange/Outlook email environment

  • Intermediate understanding of networking structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • Ability to conduct research on issues related to job specification, standards and products as required

  • Good written and oral communication skills including technical documentation

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Associates degree in the field of computer science and/or 3 years equivalent work experience.

  • CompTIA A+/Network +, Microsoft MCP, and Cisco CCENT certifications are preferred.
