Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
The Area Production Supervisor is responsible for leading plant production, hourly team members to attain production and quality goals while ensuring the safest working environment possible. The person in this position is responsible for managing and owning various functions of the business and creating an engaged and team oriented workforce in order to improve business results. In addition, this individual is responsible for repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment in manufacturing operations. This individual is responsible to eliminate all causes of failure and ensure full useful life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by operating personnel.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage, direct and coordinate all maintenance activities related to a production area to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining quality.
Typically supervises 5-25 employees.
Ensure the safety of all employees by training and enforcing safety policies, including mobile equipment safety protocols
Carry out supervisory responsibilities including training employees; planning, assigning & directing work; appraising performance; rewarding & disciplining employees; addressing complaints & resolving problems.
Ensure all production equipment downtime data is gathered, trended and reported correctly on an established basis.
Support & improve upon Quality initiatives designed to meet plant goals. • Manage employee hours in timekeeping system
Initiate, implement and complete problem solving techniques to correct reoccurring downtime issues.
Ability to work all shifts and weekend work
Supervise all aspects of maintaining the production/handling equipment and facilities at the plant to ensure efficient operations. Develops and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
Helps to set priorities for projects and work orders pertaining to the maintenance function.
Directs hourly and/or salaried maintenance resources to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production/handling equipment and facilities based on plant and department priorities, under the advisement of the plant manager.
Develops and manages contracted maintenance labor where necessary.
Assists with planning and cost estimates for annual and longer term capital budgets.
Manage maintenance labor, maintenance parts, and facilities budgets within specified levels.
Provide training and certification support to all maintenance personnel to improve job performance and safety performance.
Lead or participate in cost improvement efforts.
Establishes, promotes and maintains safety standards, utilizing employee meetings, safety committee and effective training.
In locations where applicable, responsible to comply with the SQF and GMP practices and programs to ensure safe food packaging product and to report food safety problems to those with authority to take action.
High school diploma required, BA/BS preferred (business, engineering)
MBA or other advance degree a plus.
5+ years of related professional and progressive manufacturing maintenance experience.
2+ years prior technical team management experience combined with a proven track record of developing, coaching and mentoring a diverse workforce
2+ years of Supervisory manufacturing experience.
Experience in Union environment preferred
Proficient in MS Office.
Proficient in SAP.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels within the organization.
Self-directed with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
Strong analytical skills as well as organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
A commitment to excellence and continuous improvement with experience in various Continuous Improvement Processes and initiatives (i.e. 5S, Value Stream, Six Sigma, TPM)
Solid project management capabilities with the ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously from origin through execution.
Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
Ability to build high performing teams that involve mutual accountability for results; goal orientated.
Ability to focus on organizational growth, financial performance and achieving results.
Ability to manage conflict through assertive and decisive behavior while maintaining composure in difficult situations.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude • Good computer skills.
Problem solving experience using 5S, Kaizen, TPM, Wishbone
SAP, Kronos experience preferred.
