Behavioral Health Medical Billing and Collections Specialist Responsibilities
The Behavioral Health Medical Billing and Collections Specialist position is responsible for providing Accounts Receivable insurance Billing / Follow-Up / Collections, Payment and Reimbursement methodology, Denial Management and/or Refund Processing. Works collector queue daily. Works correspondence and return mail. Ensures all appeals are filed timely. Reviews for possible errors prior to submission to ensure accurate claims submitted electronically through billing software. Provides continuous updates and information to Business Office Management regarding ongoing errors, payer related issues, registration issues and other controllable QA related activities affecting payment. The ability to multi task, meet deadlines, communicate in a professional manner, and be a dependable team player are critical for this role.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Accurately and timely billing and rebilling of professional service claims.
Contacting state and third party payors in a timely manner to determine claim status for professional service claims.
Performs patient account data entry and maintenance.
Ensures accurate capturing and posting of financial activity and maintains accounts receivable at amounts appropriate for payer and acuity mix.
Actively works with the clinical and leadership team to ensure pre-certifications, certifications, and appeals are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
Reviews and works billing software errors in a timely manner.
Reviews and works remittance advices in a timely manner.
Reviews and works credit balance to maintain accurate account receivable balances.
Attends and prepares for weekly Billing and AR Calls
Works reports distributed by Behavioral Health leadership in a timely manner.
Pro-actively reports issues or concerns effecting the billing and collections of professional service claims to the Behavioral Health leadership.
Assist organization with preparing reports, presentations, special projects and other routine administrative professional job duties to include audits of employee files.
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience working in accounts receivable, billing and collecting in a healthcare setting preferred. Experience with Medicaid and Medicare claims preferred. Computer skills including working in Excel, Word and databases are required. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to provide professional customer services by both phone and email are required.
