The goal of the Health Care Economics Consultant/Sr is to deliver a single source of truth for Restated Financial Management and Trend Analytics, Cost of Care Savings Initiatives and Consolidated Performance Reporting to drive increased transparency and operational efficiency. This objective aligns with the company’s strategic pillar; Optimizing Medical Cost Management. Health Care Analytics partners with key executives within each business unit to ensure program adoption and sustained success. Health Care Economics is a key department in Health Care Analytics and a strong contributor in reporting, analyzing and optimizing medical cost management.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: * Develops sound applications and models necessary to efficiently measure, understand, monitor and explain the company’s medical cost structure and restated financial results. * Provides the Commercial and Specialty Business Division leadership team in the areas of o Performance Analytics: Restated Financial Results - reporting, analysis and interpretation - proactively identifying opportunities and risks throughout company (trend anomalies, outliers, behaviors, etc.); o Customers: Commercial Local Market Leadership, Enterprise Leadership and Departmental Leadership o Consulting with our customer base, guide them in the interpretation of analytical results, identify patterns, determine where intervention is needed and work with customers to develop mitigation actions; o Valuation, validation and tracking of regional-based cost, utilization and intensity of clinical initiatives; o Development of drill down analyses that will enhance the quality, timeliness and efficiency of management reporting, including identification of trend drivers and health care cost opportunities; o Data stewardship - Ensure accessibility and timeliness of accurate data and information for our customers; o Business Oversight & Management of Reporting and Analytic Tools; o Standardizing Cost of Care program Governance; o Reporting Tool Oversight: Provide business oversight and management of reporting and analytic tools; o to strengthen corporate performance management. * Analytic and consulting support for Anthems Commercial Local Markets including * Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses and interpretations of results including technical reports, summaries and quantitative analyses * Reports project status and progress to business unit management and ensures accuracy and timeliness of output and deliverables * Will work to develop communication and presentation skills, and to work independently with Local Market leadership, Medical Management, Product Management, Underwriting, Provider Contracting, Claims Processing, Actuarial and Finance on analyses and recommendations regarding appropriate courses of actions.  Key Competencies * Ability to communicate with customers about technical issues in non-technical terms * Understands the business processes that the system supports * Ability to extract data from multiple warehouses for the regional data * Strong financial and analytical accountability * Strong implementation and execution skills - organizing and managing multiple priorities and/or projects by using appropriate methodologies and tools * Problem Solving – a problem solver with the ability to encourage others in collaborative problem solving * Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills required including facilitation, consultation, negotiation and persuasion. * Excellent analytical skills and PC capabilities required.

Qualifications for the Health Care Economics Consultant (E13) * BS/BA degree in related field * 5 years related analytical experience or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background * Experience with relational databases and knowledge of query tools and statistical software is required * Ability to manipulate large sets of data * Strong analytical, organizational, presentation, and problem solving skills. * This job is focused on higher level technical expertise, mentoring staff in lower job levels, customer facing, higher level of collaboration, higher volume and/or higher risk, and modeling Qualifications for the Health Care Economics Consultant Senior (E14) * BS/BA degree in Statistics, Economics, or Business Administration * 8 years of relevant analytical experience or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background * Experience providing leadership in evaluating financial performance of complex organizations required * Excellent leadership, problem solving, organizational, planning, presentation and interpersonal skills * This job is focused on identifying solutions to business problems and needs, very knowledgeable across products, more customer facing in recommending solutions, expert in data analysis, extremely independent, more interpretation of what is required by the business Qualifications for all levels * Master’s Degree, FSA/ASA, or other pertinent key professional designations preferred * 5 years of experience required in the Managed Health Care Industry, specific to analytics * considerable experience in statistical analysis and healthcare modeling * Progressive data analysis and reporting experience * Proficiency with Microsoft Excel * Working knowledge of SAS, SQL, Visual Basic and Oracle This position will be filled as a* job family and the level will be determined based on the experience and knowledge of the selected candidate.*
