Job Summary of Mechanical Project Engineer
Responsible for leading the mechanical engineering project aspects specific to package handling conveyor systems. The Mechanical Project Engineer will collaborate frequently with mechanical designers, electrical engineers, management and customers to successfully complete projects.
Mechanical Project Engineer Job Functions
Develop an understanding for the specific mechanical engineering requirements per project
Study and become familiar with the elementary system drawings
Engineering hours estimate
Project contract requirements and options
Provide technical interface with customer’s project representative(s)
Project scope definitions
Contract change orders
Customer specifications / standards.
Understand project material requirements and submit for purchase to meet installation schedule.
Provide technical support for vendors, field installation personnel, and engineering subcontractors.
Communicate project specific information with internal project management team members, purchasing, electrical engineering, field installation and fabrication departments.
Release drawings for installation and fabrication
Create material purchase requests
Report changes to scope of work for the project as they occur.
Maintain project-specific requirements while applying general knowledge of conveyor systems, conveyor equipment and customer specifications and standards
Provide input as needed in areas of development, cost reduction, and quality improvements.
Check drawings provided by mechanical designers for accuracy and provide feedback for corrections as needed.
Perform and assist in directing engineering analysis as determined by project needs in structural, mechanical power transmission and fluid power disciplines.
Mechanical Project Engineer Qualifications
5 years of material handling equipment experience preferably within the conveyor systems industry.
Knowledge of Power transmission equipment
Microsoft Office Suite
Proven working knowledge of AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor
Able to read, understand and apply customer specifications
Communicate effectively with customers, vendors and co-workers
Proven ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner in order to meet critical time deadlines.
Must be able to travel to jobsites and customer meetings as required.
Mechanical Project Engineer Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering and design.
