The Cardiology Nurse Manager is responsible for a full range of duties, serving as the expert to oversee the operations of the assigned areas (such as the Cardiac Cath Lab, Out-patient Cardio Testing Area, and Cardiology Clinics) and demonstrates mastery in leading the nursing team and support staff. Responsible for the planning, organizing, and directing of activities for the Cath Lab Unit/Cardio Clinics (in collaboration with our clinic nurse manager). Manages resources effectively to improve overall patient outcomes. Assesses the educational needs of the staff and collaborates to assure that learning needs are met. Applies evidence-based practice principles to validate and or improve nursing practice. Assures staffing levels are maintained and continually evaluates staffing needs. Manages supplies and equipment inventories and assures equipment is maintained and in working order. Assures a safety patient environment and immediately corrects deficiencies. Removes barriers through active collaboration with Nurse Executives, Nursing Supervisors, providers, site managers and support services. Functions/Scope of assigned duties:
Supervision of nursing and technical staff, including hiring, coaching, discipline and evaluation.
Assures appropriate nursing care is delivered to patients.
Monitors patient care and facilitates patient flow daily.
Assures the competence of staff by supervising the orientation and competency validation process, including annual competencies.
Collaborates with Chief Nurse of Medicine Service on determining staffing needs of the department; schedules/distributes staff based on expected workload.
Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization to the staff and leads implementation of the strategic plan as it relates to the department.
Implements staff retention strategies such as awards and recognition, advocating for supply and equipment needs, team building, responding to suggestions and feedback, and publicly demonstrating support for nurses.
Acts as primary department change agent by communicating, promoting and monitoring compliance with new policies and procedures and by proposing innovative solutions to departmental problems.
Leads Performance Improvement efforts, including use of LEAN/Six Sigma and other processes.
Accountable for related performance measures.
Participates in nursing and/or medical center committees or task forces.
Leads evaluation of new equipment and products relevant to patient care.
Effectively communicates with other departments regarding the needs of or issues pertaining to the department.
Develops and maintains positive, effective relationships with the bargaining units. . Assists the Chief of Cardiology in managing resources and staff to maximize Quality of Care in the Cardiology Department.
Work Schedule: Regular tour of duty is Monday Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm or as needed to accommodate patient care needs and emergencies.

- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)(Waiver may be available). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- BSN or MSN strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of recent nursing practice experience in the ICU/Cardiology areas
- Cath Lab and Non-Invasive Cardiology experience
- 2-3 years of clinical nurse leader experience
- previous experience as a nurse manager or an assistant nurse manager
- CCRN or PCCN certification
- Advance Cardiac Life Savings (ACLS)
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
