Principal Dimensional Variation Analysis Engineer

The Challenge

The Dimensional Variation Analysis Engineer will support the Director of Dimensional Control to shape the strategy and lead the integration of dimensional variation analysis practices into the GEA product development processes.

What you will Do

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the NPI teams early in the product development process to guide the management of variation throughout the design, manufacturing, and assembly process.

  • Leverage 3D variation analysis software to predictively optimize product designs early in the development process to achieve world class fit, finish, and craftsmanship.

  • Support the product development teams by owning and performing critical 3D variation analysis to determine if the design, manufacturing, and assembly process will optimally achieve the final product dimensional requirements.

  • Provide technical direction and mentoring for design engineers related to the application of dimensional management and variation analysis

  • Coordinate 3D variation analysis work with the off-shore team in addition to providing guidance and technical direction.

  • Responsible for developing engineers in dimensional management practices through a combination of face to face mentoring and in-classroom training.

  • Responsible for developing and enforcing GEA standards related to the application of dimensional management and variation analysis.

  • Promote a culture of innovation and learning through external collaborations and benchmarking

What you need to Succeed

Education:

  • Bachelors or better in Engineering or related field.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Design Engineering or Dimensional Engineering 10+ Years

  • Highly skilled in dimensional variation analysis modeling using CETOL, Aesthetica, Vis VSA, or 3DCS

  • Skilled in the interpretation and application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5

  • Self-starter, willingness to develop and implement new digital engineering tools and practices

  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills

Desired Characteristics:

  • Highly skilled in the application of CETOL or Aesthetica 3D variation analysis software

  • Highly skilled with Creo and Windchill

  • GDTP Technologist or Senior Level Certification per ASME Y14.5

  • Familiar with the application of model-based definition per ASME Y14.41

  • Familiar with model-based inspection methods using functional gaging, CMM, or 3D scanning

  • Familiar with APQP, automotive quality systems, or similar
