Senior Design Engineer
The COE Design Engineer - Features and Appearance is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of appearance parts for new gas and electric cooking appliances within the Cooking product line. This hands-on position requires creativity as well as technical competency to identify and develop unique engineering solutions for next generation products.
The COE Design Engineer - Features and Appearance will own the entire process of designing, prototyping, testing and evaluating new designs as part of a cross functional team.
What you will Do
Support the Features & Appearance COE team by driving execution of key component and system designs through a balanced approach of analytical and empirical techniques
Create prototype models that incorporate new concepts to demonstrate product feasibility
Incorporate Design for Six Sigma and Lean principles into product designs
Support design efforts through program, technical, and top down reviews to ensure design robustness and compliance to product technical specifications
Support overall Features & Appearance COE modularity strategy by ensuring that designs follow key interface requirements
Own component level DFR requirements including root cause and development of corrective actions for component failures, product improvements, and FRACAS items.
Design & execute evaluation plans to demonstrate design performance to required technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
Support the implementation of chosen design concepts within the manufacturing facility by participating in lean events and executing product builds.
What you need to Succeed
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum 5 years of engineering design experience in consumer products, automotive, or other comparable industry
Proven record of product development execution, problems solving and innovative approaches that meet customer’s requirements
Demonstrated passion for teamwork and above average verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Proficient in 3D software such as Creo, Solidworks, or equivalent
Advanced computer skills; high proficiency in Microsoft products and ability to grasp new systems quickly
Travel within the Southeastern US or Mexico to support team design and production activities (approximately 20%)
Minimum of 5 years of sheet metal product development experience
Basic knowledge of aesthetics finishes on different substrates and appearance surface requirements
Experience working with global teams
Six Sigma certified or demonstrated equivalent experience with statistical tools
